Linen and Corduroy

all rolled up

I was blog hopping and stumbled upon a couple of fun sewing projects that I could do with some of my scraps. I’ve never made a crayon roll before, so I tried it, and it was fun. So I made four. Most crayon rolls are tied up with a ribbon, but I figure that most kids don’t know how to tie things so I added a button with an elastic loop instead. (if anyone knows how to sew on an elastic cord without breaking the elastic, I would love a tip.)  The tutorial can be found at Chocolate on my Cranium.

Hopefully my nieces will enjoy these. I made a quick little pair of kimono baby shoes so their little brother wouldn’t feel left out.

The kimono shoe pattern is found at homespun-threads.  I discovered a new love recently…linen and corduroy fabric! Oh the endless possibilities!

Grand Taiko Concert

Taking advantage of some cool weather last night, we headed over to Miller Outdoor Theatre to see the 13th Annual Grand Taiko Concert. It reminded us another performance we saw last year. In the middle of the performance, there was a 900-year old dance, which wasn’t very good. Fortunately, the rest of the program consisted of fun drum beats and silk dancers. The Taiko group also has one of the largest drums in North America (5′ x 7′).

To top it off, we headed over to Amy’s Ice Cream and were pleasantly surprised. Great atmosphere, fun hangout and good ice cream.

Busy, Busy

Things have been really busy the last few weeks. My church calling has kept me busy with the missionaries and planning baptisms. Plus, we generally have friends over once or twice a week on top of that.

Anyway, last Friday we got to spend with Mike. He was in town for just about 36 hours to visit a client, but we had a great time. We went to an Astros game and had great seats/free food. If I had the time, I would have taken advantage of the JetBlue “fly anywhere you want for one month” special.

Lately, Diane and I have been playing lots of tennis. We found some public courts just west of Rice U and go there about 3x/week. I’ve starting to feel like I can keep up with her. Maybe by Christmas, I’ll actually be able to win a set.
