We shake our fists at Houston

Theft in Houston is a big problem for the Mladineos. First our bikes, then our GPS (thank you Jiffy Lube), now our car…all in a year! Fernando parked his beloved Lovinator (Ford Explorer) in his usual lot downtown at work yesterday only to find at 3pm that it was gone and glass was on the ground. Yep, his car was stolen in broad daylight. On top of that, poor Ferdy lost his scriptures, our digital camera, our gate remote, garage remote, house key, and my spare car key and his work cell. Don’t worry, Ferd took the morning off and changed our locks, our codes, and activated our alarm system. We are so depressed. Our faith in humanity is getting lower by the day. And I am shaking my fist in the air right now. And cursing the fact that we only had liability insurance on our vehicles.

Last weekend we went to the Smart dealership to trade the Lovinator in for a Smartcar, as well as to take advantage of the Cash for Clunkers deal. Pretty much it was a way for us to take advantage of the free money the government is handing out, by trading in our gas hog for a more eco friendly car that we were going to get anyway, and getting $4,500 to do so. Unfortunately Cash for Clunkers doesn’t take effect until July 24th, so we had to wait a few more weeks to trade it in. Oh curse it all!!!!!

I’m ok.

Poor Ferdy is very sad and continues to search on Craigslist for his Lovinator. So keep an eye out for a tan Ford Explorer with a Cougars plate frame and that’s a little banged up on the sides. Although it is probably more banged up now. As long as it runs, we don’t care. Cash for Clunkers does not discriminate.

4th of July Weekend

It was a fun weekend. We kicked it off with a BBQ at our place and invited over family and friends. It was especially interesting to see how everything would go having lots of little kids running around. Needless to say, we have a great time and enjoyed spending time with everybody who attended.

On Saturday, we went out to breakfast and experienced the Breakfast Klub. I must say that the Wings and Waffles was pretty yummy. We caught an early viewing of Transformers and then came back to rest up for the fireworks. We decided to see what was going on downtown–they have the largest land-based fireworks show in the USA. Arriving too early and without chairs or blankets, we left with the Keeles and tried out Taco Milagro, which was OK. We finished the night off seeing fireworks from the top of our old parking garage. While we could see multiple fireworks shows, we missed out on hearing the loud booms from the downtown show (great show, btw).
